This is a list of actual "Frequently Asked Questions" from our customers to the Technical Support Staff:

Q. Are Bowker's Windows edition products compatible with Windows '95?

A. Yes, all of Bowker's Windows Compatible products are for use with the MS-Windows line of products, including Windows '95, although they are not Windows '95 native applications.

Q. I have a single-user version of a PLUS Series product. Can I install it as a single user product on a network or shareable drive?

A.Because our software programs take up very little hard disk space and the slower speed associated with network access, we strongly recommend that single user CD-ROMs be installed on the local machines.

Q. Does ABMS have a delimited format for import/export?

A. Currently, ABMS files can be saved in regular ASCII, non-delimited text format. Comma-delimited output is scheduled to be available in the next release of ABMS as well as Publishing Marketplace Reference PLUS.

Corporate Affiliations PLUS and Advertising and Agency Redbooks PLUS also have the comma-delimited output feature.

Q. I want to print all of the records in the database. How do I do that?

A.The database is designed to print, save, or view up to 200 records at a time. We have designed the database engine to quickly select the first 200 records, as well as subsequent series of 200 records by incorporating the extended select function (CTRL-X). From the Brief Citation screen, hold down the CTRL key and the X key. That will turn on the extended select function. Then press the END key to advance to record 200. Press ENTER and that will select the first 200 records. Now you can print, save, or view them. To select the next 200, press CTRL-D; press the down arrow key once; then press CTRL-X, END and ENTER again.

Q. When I start up the PLUS Series program, I get an error message that says: 'Could not locate the Word Processor. Specify the Correct Path for the Word Processor. Program will Run if Not Using Word Processor.' Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

A. During the PLUS Series installation, you have the option of specifying a word processor path for the "Edit" Function. The only word processor that will run from inside of a PLUS Series product is DOS Edlin. If you are using WordPerfect or MS-Word, the word processor option in the installation should be left blank, and the "Save"function should be used.

Q. When I use the F7 Order Option in Books in Print PLUS, are they in true MARC Format?

A. No, when you use the F7 Order Option, the records are in a proprietary format as defined by the vendors, most of whom are using BISAC format. MARC is not an electronic ordering format. You may output MARC-Tagged records by choosing MARC as the current display format and pressing F4 (Save).

Q. Why does your PLUS Series program have high memory requirements in DOS?

A.Our product has more functionality, thus necessitating higher memory requirements than some other products. Most of the current releases support the use of extended or expanded memory, thereby lowering the conventional memory requirements to 500K. For those users who cannot get at least 500K of conventional RAM from their system, even after using a Third-Party memory management program, we recommend using the Windows editions of our product, when available..

- special thanks to Ajay, Steve, Pat, and Ann for their assistance on this!
